Dear Parishioners and Friends of Calvert House,

We are deeply saddened to convey to you the news that Fr. Paul Mankowski, S.J. passed away at 1:00 pm on Thursday, September 3rd, 2020.

Fr. Paul was an alumnus of the University of Chicago and returned to Hyde Park in 2012 to serve as Scholar-in-Residence at the Lumen Christi Institute. From then until his passing, he celebrated Mass regularly at Calvert House, where he had a lasting impact on students.

He was known to many at Calvert House for his erudition, wit, and pastoral discernment—all of which he dedicated to single-minded service of the Gospel. We have been edified by his witness, and we will feel his loss acutely.

Calvert House plans to hold a Month’s Mind Mass for Fr. Paul early in October. This Mass will be open to all students and faculty, however sign-up will be required. We will post information on this page once we have finalized the details.

In the meantime, we ask you to continue to join us in remembering Fr. Paul in your prayers.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
And may the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

For more information on Fr. Paul’s life and legacy, see the pages that the Midwest Province of the Jesuits and the Lumen Christi Institute have dedicated to him.

Sincerely,
Fr. Andrew Liaugminas
and the Calvert House Staff
